A panel connected to ‘Booking: Artists’ Books by Black Artists’ will feature curator Colette Gaiter in conversation with Tia Blassingame, Rick Griffith and IBé Crawley about artists’ books and creative practices, followed by an audience Q&A and reception.
Part of Handwork 2026, the exhibition brings together artists’ books that explore Black histories, identities and futures through the book as an art form, with works spanning printmaking, photography, sculpture and graphic design. Handcrafted volumes, zines, scrolls and sculptural book objects present books as spaces for storytelling, cultural memory, experimentation and resistance.
As the exhibition’s description puts it, the artists are ‘booking’: they may be making books or moving quickly to express their voices and tell their stories as Black artists. Among the listed works are IBé Bulinda Crawley and Sarah Matthews’s ‘Rage’ and Rick Griffith’s ‘All the Black Bodies’.
