The exhibition will run from September 23, 2026, through January 3, 2027, in the Garvey Family Gallery. The Miyazaki family has loaned more than 40 paintings, drawings and block prints dating from the 1930s exclusively for the exhibition. It will be the first opportunity for the public to view Miyazaki’s work in more than 80 years.
His work appeared in the 1932 Northwest Annual Exhibition and in the exhibitions held after the event moved to the Seattle Art Museum in 1936, 1937 and 1938.
Despite this recognition, Miyazaki lived with poverty and poor health, and George Tsutakawa often sent him money for living expenses and art supplies. Miyazaki received a solo exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum in 1939 and died the following year at age 30 of advanced-stage lung cancer. He was given a posthumous memorial exhibition with the Northwest Printmakers Society at the Seattle Art Museum in 1942.
