The exhibition is on view at the Zentrum für verfolgte Künste in Solingen from 9 May to 13 September 2026.
Antibourgeois, anarchist and pacifist, Dada offered social criticism through a sharp gaze and biting satire. The exhibition presents Dada’s questioning of prevailing values and of political and social conditions and dynamics, especially those that led to the catastrophe of the First World War.
Dada artists used varied styles and produced literature, poetry, plays, paintings, graphic art, collages and photographs, while the political remained a central common thread. George Grosz, Hannah Höch and John Heartfield later fought the rise of National Socialism through art.
The art historian working on the exhibition connects historical precision with the question of the present-day force of artistic positions. Dada also accused and challenged audiences to look closely, reflect and understand.
