Anselm Kiefer’s solo exhibition ‘The Women Alchemists’ will run from 7 February to 27 September 2026 at Palazzo Reale’s Sala delle Cariatidi in Milan.
‘The Women Alchemists’ unfolds as a cycle of 42 large-scale canvases created to resonate with the architecture of the Sala delle Cariatidi.
The setting is marked by the scars of the 1943 bombing.
Each painting is presented as an act of resurrection involving an emerging identity, a story or transformed material.
Kiefer interprets the alchemical motto ‘Obscurum per obscurius, ignotum per ignotius’ as ‘the obscure through the more obscure, the unknown through the even more unknown.’
