Museum Franz Gertsch in Burgdorf has announced the opening of new exhibitions on Friday, 18 September 2026. The opening begins at 18:30, with doors opening at 16:00.
Gertsch used photography—almost always photographs he had made himself—as a kind of sketch or “score” for paintings.
A 2020 presentation at the museum focused on the artist’s monumental paintings of the 1970s, the decade associated with his breakthrough and international recognition. Among the works identified in material from that exhibition was ‘At Luciano’s House’ (1973), one of several large-scale paintings connected to the Reckenbühl circle.
Gertsch’s turn to photorealism was also illustrated by ‘Huaa...!’, a painting of a rider in wild gallop based on a still from ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade’ reproduced in the magazine Salut les Copains.
