The Suntory Museum of Art will open ‘Itsuo Museum Collection: Buson, Goshun and Tea Ceremony Masterpieces’ on September 16, 2026, with Nagasawa Rosetsu’s ‘Snowfall Puppies’ due to enter the exhibition nearly a month later. The painting will be displayed from October 14 through November 8, during the exhibition’s later period.
That schedule gives the work a concentrated appearance at the close of the Tokyo exhibition, which runs through November 8. The museum has singled out Rosetsu’s painting in advance of the opening, drawing attention to a picture whose subject is a white puppy that appears to be smiling.
Rosetsu took up a subject popularized by his teacher, Maruyama Ōkyo, while developing what the museum describes as his own charming treatment. In ‘Snowfall Puppies’, the smiling-looking white dog supplies the work’s immediately legible motif.
The October 14 start date means that the painting will not be on view during the exhibition’s opening weeks. Its display begins in the final stretch of ‘Itsuo Museum Collection: Buson, Goshun and Tea Ceremony Masterpieces’ and concludes with the exhibition on November 8.
