The Reina Sofía has announced changes to its collection display that will introduce a new ‘Pieza Única’ sequence and five new galleries linked to the centenary of the Generation of ’27.
‘Pieza Única’ will begin with Manolo Millares’s ‘Personaje caído I’. The sequence will then continue with Cecilia Bengolea, extending the announcement beyond its opening work to a second named artist.
The Generation of ’27 centenary is the other announced strand of the collection transformation. It will bring five new galleries and nearly 100 works, with special attention to women. The museum has attached both the number of works and that emphasis to the centenary presentation.
The announcement thus identifies Millares’s ‘Personaje caído I’ as the starting point for ‘Pieza Única’, followed by Bengolea, while the Generation of ’27 centenary introduces the five new galleries and its selection of nearly 100 works.
