The Frye Art Museum in Seattle will mark the closing weekend of ‘Tom Lloyd’ with events on September 19–20, ahead of the exhibition’s final day on September 20.
On view since May 16, the exhibition brings together, for the first time, 20 years of Lloyd’s assemblages, electronically programmed light sculptures and works on paper, alongside materials addressing his efforts to transform the art world in New York and beyond. Lloyd (1929–1996) developed an experimental practice during the 1960s using electric light as an artistic medium, collaborating with an engineer at the Radio Corporation of America.
Organized by the Studio Museum in Harlem, the exhibition is based on research and conservation work undertaken by the institution. The Frye presentation is organized by Tamar Benzikry, Director and Curator of Learning and Engagement.
Closing-weekend programming includes ‘Ask Reinhard Anything’ on September 19 at 2:30 pm, an open conversation with new-media art expert and lead exhibition conservator Reinhard Bek on conserving technology-based art. ‘Flash Focus: Tom Lloyd’ follows at 4 pm, bringing together artists, technologists, conservators and art historians for rapid-fire talks on art, technology and creative collaboration. A family workshop, ‘Sculpting with Light: A Family Workshop Inspired by Tom Lloyd,’ is scheduled for September 20.
