Photographer Joel Sternfeld will present the Aron-Levin Lecture at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City on 8 October, from 6 to 7 pm. Tickets are $3.
The talk will address the stories, social commentary and inspiration behind Sternfeld’s ‘American Prospects’ series. Sternfeld used the American landscape to reflect on identity and culture in the 1980s.
The lecture follows the 3 October opening of ‘American Prospects and Landscape Photography, 1839 to Today’ at the museum. The exhibition features photographs by Sternfeld.
A work by Sternfeld in the museum’s collection is ‘Canyon Country, California, June 1978’, printed in 2005. The dye-transfer print was given by Peggy and William Lyons and is not on view.
