‘VISIONI. Milo Manara nel Labirinto’ will run at Labirinto della Masone from 3 October 2026 to 6 January 2027. Promoted by the Fondazione Franco Maria Ricci in collaboration with COMICON, the exhibition presents a selection of Manara’s original boards, illustrations and preparatory materials from his personal archive, private collections and international lenders.
The display is organised in three sections addressing the labyrinth in Manara’s work. The first, ‘Il labirinto come metafora del subconscio e dell’immaginazione’, includes boards from ‘Fone’, ‘Giuseppe Bergman’, ‘Viaggio a Tulum’ and ‘Fuga da Piranesi’. ‘Fone’ is described as an explicit homage to Jorge Luis Borges’s ‘The Library of Babel’, while ‘Viaggio a Tulum’ emerged from Manara’s artistic collaboration with Federico Fellini.
A second section, ‘Il labirinto come luogo del mito’, brings together a selection of Manara’s set-design sketches for the opera ‘Così fan tutte’. The concluding section, ‘Il viaggio interiore’, is dedicated to boards from ‘Il Nome della Rosa’, Manara’s comics adaptation of Umberto Eco’s novel.
For the exhibition, Manara has created an original board dedicated to Labirinto della Masone. A volume published by Franco Maria Ricci Editore will accompany the exhibition, with texts by Pietro Mercogliano and Claudio Curcio.
