Museum Cobra extends ‘Wilde rokken. Cobra-kunst als textiel’ to 8 November 2026

Museum Cobra in Amstelveen has extended ‘Wilde rokken. Cobra-kunst als textiel’ through 8 November 2026. The exhibition opened on 24 April 2026.

The presentation brings together textiles designed by members of the Cobra movement and produced by Dutch textile-printing companies. In the years after the Second World War, manufacturers invited artists to translate avant-garde painting into repeatable patterns for clothing and interior fabrics, presenting the collaborations as examples of new printing and textile techniques.

Works on view include fabrics by the Dutch artists Constant, Corneille, Anton Rooskens and Karel Appel, alongside the Belgian artist Anne Bonnet. The exhibition traces responses to these designs, which initially drew criticism before gaining commercial and cultural success in the Netherlands and beyond.

Curated by Eloise Sweetman in collaboration with Museum Cobra’s programme team, ‘Wilde rokken. Cobra-kunst als textiel’ also considers social changes from the postwar period through the 1960s, including women’s increasing independence, bodily autonomy, and the use of clothing and interiors to make statements.

Sweetman will lead an English-language curator tour of the exhibition’s Cobra textiles on 19 September, from 1pm to 2pm. Participation is free with a valid admission ticket, with a maximum of 15 participants.
