Malba will present ‘Con mirada propia: un recorrido introductorio por el arte moderno en América Latina’, a three-session course led by Lía Munilla, from 24 September to 8 October 2026.
Held on Thursdays—24 September and 1 and 8 October—from 6pm to 8pm in the Biblioteca, the programme will examine artists’ negotiations between global avant-gardes and local identity. Its first session addresses 1920s avant-gardes in Brazil and Uruguay, including Anita Malfatti, Tarsila do Amaral, Rafael Barradas and Joaquín Torres García.
The second class focuses on Mexican muralism through Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros and José Clemente Orozco, alongside Antonio Berni’s Nuevo Realismo in Argentina and works by Cándido Portinari in Brazil. The final session considers Argentine art between the wars, with Emilio Pettoruti, Xul Solar and the ‘Grupo de París’ among its subjects.
The full course costs AR$114,000, with discounts for retirees, students, teachers and Malba Amigos members. It will be held in person, with video access available 72 hours later for up to 30 days after the course ends.
