Malba Cine will present ‘Marlene + Sternberg’ throughout September in the Auditorio, screening seven films by Josef von Sternberg in new prints.
The programme follows the meeting of Marlene Dietrich and Sternberg in 1929, when Sternberg travelled from the United States to Germany to make ‘El ángel azul’. Dietrich had worked for several years in German silent cinema before the film brought her sudden fame.
Screenings begin on Friday 4 September with ‘El ángel azul’ at 22:00, followed by ‘Marruecos’ at midnight. ‘El ángel azul’ returns on Thursday 10 September at 19:00. On Friday 11 September, the cycle presents ‘El expreso de Shangai’ at 18:00, ‘Fatalidad’ at 22:00 and ‘La venus rubia’ at midnight. The final programme takes place on Friday 25 September, with ‘Tu nombre es tentación’ at 18:00 and ‘Capricho imperial’ at midnight.
