The University of Mississippi Museum will present Leticia Bajuyo’s ‘Event Horizon Ad Infinitum,’ an immersive sculpture and sound installation made from 25,000 recycled CDs and DVDs. The exhibition is scheduled to run from October 13, 2026, through April 3, 2027, at the University of Mississippi Museum in University, Mississippi.
The installation is described by the museum as a work involving light, sound, memory and connection. Images distributed with the museum’s newsletter show a large, vortex-like structure assembled from reflective discs, with the repeated circular forms creating a luminous surface and a strong sense of depth. The museum describes a large-scale, site-specific work that moves through its galleries and into exterior spaces, assembled through a labour-intensive process of drilling, stitching and weaving; it does not publish the installation’s dimensions or the technical systems behind its light and sound.
Bajuyo’s choice of obsolete media gives the project a material focus as well as an environmental one. CDs and DVDs, once central to the storage and circulation of music, film and digital information, are here gathered into a collective sculptural form. The museum identifies the discs as recycled, but has not released further information about their sources or about the process by which they were prepared and assembled.
The University of Mississippi Museum is part of the university’s Museum and Historic Houses program. The program’s newsletter describes its role as inspiring “learning, discourse, curiosity, and imagination,” and presents exhibitions alongside public talks, education activities and historic-site programming. Its current exhibition schedule includes displays drawn from the museum’s collections, including ‘Buie & Skipwith: Sisters, Artists, Collectors,’ ‘Theora Hamblett’s Children’s Games’ and ‘Caribbean Art of the Lewisohn Collection.’
‘Event Horizon Ad Infinitum’ is being developed with substantial community participation. The museum’s announcement says the exhibition “takes a village to construct” and thanks volunteers who are helping create it, crediting students, museum staff and community volunteers; the project was developed with support from the Institute for Community and Society Transformation, the OU Arts & Humanities Forum and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Partnerships at the University of Oklahoma, with additional support from the Friends of the Museum. An opening reception and artist talk are scheduled for Thursday, October 29, 2026, after the installation goes on view. Bajuyo holds a BFA from the University of Notre Dame and an MFA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and lives in Norman, Oklahoma, where she is associate professor of sculpture at the University of Oklahoma.
The exhibition will overlap with ‘24 Hours of Wonder,’ another museum presentation listed for September 22, 2026, through March 17, 2027. The two exhibitions are presented as separate entries in the museum’s upcoming-programme listings. ‘Event Horizon Ad Infinitum’ will remain on view at the University of Mississippi Museum through April 3, 2027.
