The Lázaro Galdiano Museum in Madrid has announced loans of three works to two exhibitions in Spain, extending the reach of its collection beyond its own galleries this autumn. Two paintings will travel to the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia for ‘Rubens. El florecimiento de un genio’, while a fifteenth-century altarpiece will be shown at the Museo del Prado in Madrid in ‘A la manera de Italia. España y el gótico mediterráneo (1320-1420)’. The loans were announced by the museum in September 2026.
The Valencia exhibition will include David Teniers’s ‘El archiduque Leopold Guillermo visita su galería de pinturas en Bruselas’ and Joan Goris’s ‘Retrato de Alejandro Farnesio’. Both works are being lent by the Lázaro Galdiano Museum to the exhibition at the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia, which is scheduled to continue through 4 October 2026.
Teniers’s painting depicts Archduke Leopold Wilhelm visiting his picture gallery in Brussels, according to the work’s Spanish title. The subject places the painting within the tradition of the collection-view image, while its inclusion in an exhibition devoted to Peter Paul Rubens provides a setting focused on the flourishing of a major figure in European art. The second Valencia loan is Goris’s ‘Retrato de Alejandro Farnesio’, a portrait of Alexander Farnese. A separate loan will take place in Madrid. Juan de Sevilla’s ‘Tríptico de la Virgen con el Niño y ángeles músicos’, described by the Lázaro Galdiano Museum as a fifteenth-century work, will be lent to the Museo del Prado for ‘A la manera de Italia. España y el gótico mediterráneo (1320-1420)’. The exhibition is scheduled to run through 20 September 2026, giving the work a shorter display period than the two paintings sent to Valencia.
The loans form part of the Lázaro Galdiano Museum’s programme of lending works from the collection associated with José Lázaro. The institution’s September newsletter also marked the museum’s 75th anniversary, while presenting exhibitions and public activities in Madrid and elsewhere. For the external loan programme, however, the relevant destinations are the Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia and the Museo del Prado: the Valencia presentation ends on 4 October, and the Prado exhibition on 20 September 2026.
