Walter Pfeiffer’s ‘In Good Company’, the first institutional exhibition in Italy dedicated to the Swiss artist, will close at Turin’s Pinacoteca Agnelli on 13 September. The exhibition brings together more than 100 photographs in colour and black and white, spanning Pfeiffer’s production from the early 1970s to the present.
Curated by Simon Castets and Nicola Trezzi, the exhibition combines Pfeiffer’s best-known photographic series with previously unseen images. Rather than arranging the material according to a hierarchy of periods or genres, the presentation traces the breadth of a practice that moves between portraiture, the nude, landscape and still life.
The Pinacoteca describes the project as a survey of Pfeiffer’s contribution to art, photography and fashion. His work is presented through a combination of formal precision, intense colour and sensuality, alongside images that address queer identities and sexuality. The exhibition also examines his approach to fashion imagery, where irony, playfulness and imperfection challenge the conventions of high-fashion photography.
Pfeiffer’s photographs are shown within the wider setting of the Pinacoteca Agnelli, whose permanent collection comprises 25 works donated by Giovanni and Marella Agnelli. The collection includes paintings and sculptures by artists ranging from Canaletto, Bernardo Bellotto and Antonio Canova to Édouard Manet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Giacomo Balla, Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani and Henri Matisse. These works are displayed in the ‘Scrigno’, the suspended structure on the roof of Turin’s former Lingotto FIAT factory, designed by Renzo Piano.
‘In Good Company’ also formed part of the EXPOSED Torino Photo Festival through ‘I Tuffatori (6X3)’, an open-air group exhibition installed on 26 large billboards along Turin’s streets. The Pinacoteca’s exhibition is supported by Pro Helvetia, the Swiss arts council. The museum’s website also lists a publication dedicated to the project.
The exhibition runs from 30 April to 13 September 2026. The Pinacoteca Agnelli is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 7pm, with last admission 30 minutes before closing; the Pista 500, the rooftop route connected to the museum complex, remains open until 9pm. The museum is located at Lingotto, Via Nizza 262/103, Turin.
