Marie Ducaté’s exhibition ‘Simultanés’ is on view at the Musée Ariana in Geneva through 29 November 2026, bringing together works in tracing paper, textile, drawing, furniture, glass and ceramics. The presentation transforms the museum’s exhibition space into a reimagined artist’s studio, described as an environment filled with colour and transparency.
Rather than focusing on a single medium, ‘Simultanés’ places Ducaté’s works across a range of materials and forms. The exhibition’s combination of translucent paper, fabric, drawn elements, furnishings and objects in glass and ceramic reflects a practice that moves between two-dimensional and three-dimensional work. The available presentation does not specify the number of works or the precise installation plan, but describes the exhibition as an encounter with the artist’s works within a reconstructed studio setting.
Ducaté’s practice is rooted in painting but later expanded into glass, textile and ceramics. The Musée Ariana’s September programme states that she trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lille before turning from painting toward these disciplines. Her work in ‘Simultanés’ therefore corresponds closely with the Geneva museum’s focus on ceramic and glass, while also extending beyond those materials through drawing, furniture and textile elements.
The Musée Ariana, formally the Swiss Museum of Ceramics and Glass, is located at Avenue de la Paix 10 in Geneva. Its building was constructed at the end of the 19th century by the Geneva patron Gustave Revilliod, whose collection and architectural project established the museum’s identity. The building itself is described by the museum and Switzerland’s cultural-heritage network as a work to be protected, with a monumental dome, marble and painted decoration drawing on Renaissance and Baroque styles and inspired by Italian palaces.
The Ducaté exhibition is part of a wider programme at the Ariana that includes presentations devoted to contemporary and historical approaches to material culture. During the same period, ‘Le verre, au-delà de la matière. Les collections du Cirva’ examines more than 200 objects from the collection of the Centre international de recherche sur le verre et les arts plastiques in Marseille, while ‘Tender buttons’ considers the cultural meanings of buttons through design, fashion, art, literature, politics and social history. These exhibitions are separate from ‘Simultanés’ but share the museum’s interest in the artistic and symbolic possibilities of materials.
Public programming for ‘Simultanés’ includes a guided visit on 6 September at 2 p.m., a tactile and descriptive visit for blind and visually impaired visitors on 19 September at 3 p.m., and an adult workshop, ‘Mondes imaginaires’, on 27 September at 2 p.m. The workshop is led in connection with Ducaté’s practice and invites participants to create a vase, dish, figurine or sculpture in ceramic. The Musée Ariana is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the exhibition remains on view through 29 November 2026.
