Abecita announces final weeks for three photography exhibitions in Borås Image: Hasse Persson, from ‘The Last Picture Show’, Abecita Popkonst & Foto, Borås

Three exhibitions at Abecita Popkonst & Foto in Borås are scheduled to close on 19 September 2026, giving visitors a final opportunity to see presentations by Hasse Persson, Caroline Roosmark and Mikael Pilstrand. All three opened on 7 May and are listed by the museum as part of its current programme.

The largest of the three presentations is Hasse Persson’s ‘The Last Picture Show’, described by Abecita as a retrospective of the Swedish photographer’s work. The museum says a large share of the prints are being shown for the first time, produced from negatives that had lain in an envelope with others for many years.

Persson was also billed to appear at an Abecita photography evening on Thursday 3 September, from 6.30 to 8 p.m., speaking about his experiences and his time working as a photographer in the United States. Registration closed at the end of August and the museum now lists the talk as fully booked; admission was SEK 180, payable on arrival. Abecita’s programme page states that its photography evenings run to 8.30 p.m. and that the galleries open at 5 p.m. beforehand.

Caroline Roosmark’s ‘Sagolika kvinnor’ presents portraits associated with her long-running series of the same name, which has appeared both in exhibitions and in an annual calendar. Abecita describes the portraits as featuring recognisable faces treated with a creative, strong, beautiful and playful approach. The exhibition is scheduled to remain on view through 19 September.

The third closing exhibition, Mikael Pilstrand’s ‘Horisont’, focuses on the photographer’s expansive horizon images. Abecita’s presentation characterises the photographs as striking views designed to create a powerful visual response. The exhibition shares the 7 May–19 September run with the Persson and Roosmark presentations.

Abecita Popkonst & Foto is located at Herrljungagatan 15 in the Knalleland district of Borås. Its published regular hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; the museum is closed on Mondays. The venue’s current-exhibitions page separately lists Anna Lithander’s ‘Ögonblick du missade’ as running until 10 January 2027, so that exhibition is not included among the three scheduled to end on 19 September.

Replacements are already scheduled. The museum has announced a vernissage on Thursday 24 September at 6.30 p.m. for Lena Granefelt’s ‘Natura Obscura’, which runs to 10 January 2027 and photographs plant life after flowering, specimens from Carl von Linné’s herbarium and soil micro-organisms; alongside it, Jan M Lundahl shows Bruce Springsteen photographs and Johan Claesson a spare study of a few bottles. Abecita also says the building is being rebuilt and that it will move to renovated premises closer to ground level in January.
