The Cartoon Museum in London will present Kate Myers’s collection of almost 300 feminist cartoons in ‘Kate’s Wall’, a temporary display running from 13 May to 21 August 2027. The collection, assembled over four decades, will travel in its entirety for public display for the first time.
Myers began the collection in the early 1980s, when she pinned the first cartoons to a bright orange cork wall in her kitchen. According to the museum, those initial works came home from a trip to the United States. Over the years, she expanded the display by cutting cartoons from magazines including Spare Rib, searching feminist bookshops and accepting contributions from friends.
The resulting wall-sized collection brings together cartoons described by the museum as “pointed, silly, funny and furious”. Its subjects include bad dates, boorish bosses, periods, politics and the pressure to be pretty. The display frames these works as a record of changing feminist preoccupations, while also asking visitors to consider which concerns remain familiar.
The museum’s exhibition listing describes ‘Kate’s Wall’ as “four decades of feminism – told in cartoons”. Its presentation will extend the collection beyond the domestic setting in which it developed and make the complete ensemble accessible to visitors at the Fitzrovia museum. The display forms part of The Cartoon Museum’s programme of changing exhibitions alongside its permanent collection of British editorial cartoons, caricatures and comic strips, which spans the 18th century to the present. ‘Kate’s Wall’ is scheduled to open on Thursday 13 May 2027 and close on Saturday 21 August. The museum’s published listing gives exhibition hours of 10:30am to 5:30pm from Tuesday to Saturday and noon to 4pm on Sunday; the museum is closed on Mondays. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and visitors can book tickets in advance or obtain them on the day.
