Ogura Ryūson’s ukiyo-e print ‘View of Yushima’ will be displayed during the first period of ‘Katsushika Oi’s ‘Yoshiwara Kagizaki no Zu’: The Genealogy of Nightscape Ukiyo-e’, an exhibition scheduled at Tokyo’s Ōta Memorial Museum of Art from October 6 to December 6, 2026. The museum announced the planned presentation in a post dated August 28.
The print depicts two men seen from behind as they look across Edo under moonlight. The museum’s description highlights the mysterious atmosphere created by their silhouettes and the nocturnal view of the city. No further information about the work’s date, materials or dimensions was provided in the announcement.
‘View of Yushima’ is assigned to the exhibition’s first period, running from October 6 through November 3. The museum said that works other than ‘Yoshiwara Kagizaki no Zu’ will be changed between the exhibition’s first and second periods, indicating that the presentation will vary over the course of the show.
Katsushika Oi’s ‘Yoshiwara Kagizaki no Zu’ will remain on view throughout the exhibition. The title refers to Oi’s night scene of the Yoshiwara pleasure district, while the exhibition as a whole examines a lineage of ukiyo-e representations of nighttime settings. The museum’s announcement specifically identifies the Oi work as being displayed for the full run.
Ōta Memorial Museum of Art, which specializes in ukiyo-e, will host both the first and second periods in Tokyo. The first period ends on November 3, with the overall exhibition continuing through December 6, 2026.
