Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph, Vermont, is raffling ‘Who Owns the Sun?’, a stained-glass work donated by artist Phil Godenschwager. Proceeds will benefit future renovations and sustainability initiatives at Chandler Gallery, the visual-arts space operated by the nonprofit arts organization.
Created in 1996, the work measures 28 inches wide by 27 inches high. According to Chandler’s gallery information, it is made from scrap glass shards and includes a painted and fused glass head. Godenschwager has described the source material as “a salvaged stained glass window I rescued from a New York City church.”
Raffle tickets are offered online through Chandler’s ticketing page at $20 for one entry or $100 for six entries. The listing describes each purchase as a chance to win ‘Who Owns the Sun?’ and identifies Chandler Center for the Arts as the host. The published information does not specify a drawing date.
The raffle is being promoted alongside ‘Bringing It All Together: From Then To Now’, a retrospective exhibition devoted to Godenschwager. Chandler describes the exhibition as a survey of the Vermont artist’s decades-long career, bringing together works across glass, sculpture, drawing and photography.
Among the works listed for the retrospective are a six-sided glass gazebo, a presidential-themed putting green, three-dimensional sculptures, ink drawings reflecting Godenschwager’s background in cartooning and illustration, and photographs documenting large-scale public sculptures. The exhibition opened with a public reception on July 25 and is scheduled to remain on view through September 6, during Chandler’s 34th Annual New World Festival.
The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., with additional access during the festival. Admission to the exhibition is free. Chandler Center for the Arts is located at 71 North Main Street in Randolph and presents visual arts, live performance and community programs.
