The Museum of Fine Arts Boston has remembered Yayoi Kusama with a work from its collection, ‘A Pumpkin (BT),’ a 2004 silkscreen by the artist. The museum’s post, published on August 27, 2026, identified Kusama as having lived from 1929 to 2026.
The brief notice featured an image of the work and presented it as a collection object through which the Boston museum marked Kusama’s legacy. No exhibition or public programme was announced alongside the remembrance.
‘A Pumpkin (BT)’ belongs to Kusama’s longstanding body of work focused on the pumpkin motif. In the MFA Boston post, however, the work was identified only by its title, date and medium; the museum did not provide additional commentary on its acquisition, display history or interpretation.
The work’s medium is silkscreen, a printmaking process that allows an image to be produced in editions. The museum’s reference places this particular work in 2004, more than six decades after Kusama’s birth and within the later period of her career.
