The Panama Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC Panamá) will present ‘Abrir las ventanas y dejar que la lluvia entre’, a regional project bringing together Central American collectives and artists whose work is grounded in shared learning, utopian imagination and the transformative potential of artistic practice. The project is scheduled to run from September 10, 2026, through February 28, 2027, at MAC Panamá in Ancón, Panama.
The presentation is being developed in collaboration with Costa Rica’s Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo. According to MAC Panamá, the partnership will explore how museum spaces can be activated as places of encounter and as fertile ground for collective practices. The project frames the museum not only as a site for displaying artworks, but also as a setting in which artistic communities and forms of cooperation can become visible.
Participating groups include En una papa, Congo Rais and Nuestra Colectiva from Panama; LL Proyectos from Honduras, alongside Dariana Torres, Nancy Valladares and Luna Flores; Taller Nepantla from Nicaragua; Reunión from Costa Rica; La Revuelta from Guatemala, with Camille Juarez, Verónica Navas, ANDI, Jẹniffer Orellana, XIXI and Riseth Yanguez Singh; Proyecto Parutz from Guatemala; SATISFactory from Costa Rica; Studio Lenka, identified as operating between El Salvador and the United Kingdom; and Wagua Films from Panama. Reunión.la is also listed among the participants.
The project additionally includes ‘Memorias Maricas Transfronterizas del Río San Juan’, involving Marga Sequeira of Costa Rica; Lola Rizo, Alejandro Belli, Miguel Díaz, Operación Queer, Basthian, David Ocon and Anahí Briones of Nicaragua; and La Cholla Jackson and Josu Lopez of Costa Rica. The grouping brings together practices connected to queer memory, cross-border experience and community-based artistic exchange, while retaining the regional scope outlined by the museum.
MAC Panamá describes the project as responding to the difficulty of imagining alternative forms of collective organization and to the urgency of creating spaces for shared imagination from within the territories people inhabit. Its stated focus is on “living practices” that question existing systems and invite consideration of possible futures. The project’s visual identity includes an illustration by the artist Meera Sachani.
The collaboration is supported by Bi Bank Panamá and Marjalizo, identified by MAC Panamá as principal sponsors. The museum is located on Calle San Blas in Ancón, beside the Instituto Panameño de Habilitación Especial and the family courts. ‘Abrir las ventanas y dejar que la lluvia entre’ will be on view there from September 10, 2026, to February 28, 2027.
