Gallery 1C03 will mark its 40th anniversary in Winnipeg with ‘Lux et Veritas Floreant / Let Light and Truth Flourish,’ a group exhibition of University of Winnipeg alumni artists running from September 10 to November 13, 2026. The exhibition will be presented at Gallery 1C03 in Centennial Hall at the University of Winnipeg, with an opening reception scheduled for September 10 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Named after the University of Winnipeg’s motto, the project brings together artists whose work addresses themes including identity, reconciliation, the surreal and the sublime. The participating artists are KC Adams, Dee Barsy, Steve Bates, Ian Bawa, Scott Benesiinaabandan, Mahlet Cuff, Christina Hajjar, Jaimie Isaac, Judah Iyunade, Mike Maryniuk, Kegan McFadden, Shivanya Ra, Paul Robles, Kevin Settee, Leslie Supnet, Ted Turner, Rhayne Vermette and Melanie Zurba.
The anniversary exhibition frames Gallery 1C03 as an ongoing point of connection for artistically inclined students who have studied at the university. According to the gallery’s announcement, highlighting alumni is intended to recognize the growth of arts and culture on campus and beyond, while considering how the university motto and the institution’s lasting influence can be expressed through contemporary artistic practices.
Jennifer Gibson, Gallery 1C03’s director and curator, and independent curator Jenny Western are organizing the project. Both curators are University of Winnipeg alumni. The exhibition has received funding from the Manitoba Arts Council, with the Winnipeg Film Group and the university’s Office of Alumni Affairs listed as program partners.
The gallery exhibition will be accompanied by programming at other Winnipeg locations. An evening program of short films is scheduled for September 25 at Dave Barber Cinematheque, followed by a campus screening of Rhayne Vermette’s feature film ‘Levers’ on October 26. Public conversations with selected artists are also planned, although the announcement does not specify dates for those discussions.
The exhibition’s featured image is Paul Robles’s ‘September Moon (Harvest)’ (2025), made from cut origami paper and gouache on vellum and measuring 26 by 26 inches. Gallery 1C03 is located at 515 Portage Avenue on the main floor of Centennial Hall. The exhibitions and affiliated events are free to the public; regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m., or by appointment.
