The Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava will present Margita Titlová Ylovsky’s ‘Lásky panenek’ (‘Doll Loves’) as the 33rd instalment in its one-work presentation series. Selected by singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist David Pomahač, the 1993 mixed-media painting will be shown at Dům umění, the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava’s exhibition venue, from 30 September 2026 through 3 January 2027.
The work will appear within ‘Na zlomu milénií’ (‘At the Turn of the Millennium’), a collection exhibition devoted to contemporary art held by the Gallery of Fine Arts in Ostrava (GVUO). The broader exhibition opens on 29 September at 5pm and surveys artists who entered the art scene around the turn of the millennium, alongside significant tendencies in post-revolutionary Czech art and the quality of the institution’s more recent acquisitions.
GVUO’s September programme is part of the centenary commemorations for Dům umění, which marks 100 years in 2026. The institution’s autumn projects draw on its holdings across several historical and artistic contexts. Alongside ‘Na zlomu milénií’, the programme includes ‘Uhrančivá krása věčných stránek’ (‘The Enchanting Beauty of Eternal Pages’), focused on artist books, bibliophilic editions and related works, and ‘Alba vzdoru a naděje’ (‘Albums of Defiance and Hope’), devoted to samizdat albums produced in the Ostrava region during the 1970s.
The central exhibition includes works by Jiří Surůvka, Milena Dopitová, Kamera Skura, Pavla Sceranková and Josef Bolf, among others. One work identified in the programme is Sceranková’s ‘Výzkum’ (‘Research’) from 2015, made from a Thonet wooden chair, preserving jars with metal lids and bamboo clothes pegs. The presentation of Titlová Ylovsky’s painting adds a focused view of one object to the larger account of art around the millennium.
The selected work, ‘Lásky panenek’, dates from 1993 and is described by GVUO as a mixed-media work on canvas. It belongs to the Gallery’s collection and remains part of ‘Na zlomu milénií’ throughout the presentation period. The announcement identifies Pomahač as the selector but provides no further commentary on his choice or on the painting’s interpretation.
Dům umění is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 6pm and is closed on Mondays. It is located at Jurečkova 9 in Ostrava. The venue’s centenary programme also includes lectures, public events and activities for children and adults, while the opening of ‘Na zlomu milénií’ is scheduled for 29 September at 5pm, with free admission listed in GVUO’s programme.
