La Galleria BPER will open ‘CAOS χάος. Spazi e poetiche dell’arte informale’ at Palazzo San Carlo, Via Scudari 9, in Modena on 18 September 2026, running to 7 February 2027. The exhibition is devoted to Art Informel, which the organiser describes as one of the most innovative and absorbing episodes of twentieth-century art.
The show is curated by Daniela Ferrari, an art historian and curator at Mart in Rovereto whose work centres on Italian art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. She has previously curated two exhibitions for La Galleria BPER: the Mario Sironi presentation in 2023 and ‘Psiche allo specchio. Omnia vincit amor’ in 2024.
The selection draws on the Corporate Collection BPER together with significant public and private loans. La Galleria BPER frames the route around the moment artists abandoned figurative representation in favour of the energy of the gesture, the force of material and the freedom of the mark, presenting what it calls masterpieces of Italian art of the second post-war period. Artists named in the announcement include Carla Accardi, Afro, Alberto Burri and Lucio Fontana.
The exhibition forms part of the programme of the 26th edition of festivalfilosofia, the philosophy festival held annually in Modena and neighbouring towns, which accounts for the mid-September opening.
Admission is free. Opening hours are Fridays from 2 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Free guided tours are planned, with bookings due to open shortly.
Palazzo San Carlo is one of several venues in La Galleria BPER’s network, which also includes sites in Brescia, Ferrara, Genoa and L’Aquila. Other projects listed in the same newsletter, among them the permanent display ‘Scrigno di memorie’ opening at the Polo Culturale BPER in L’Aquila on 3 September 2026, are separate from ‘CAOS’.
