The Houston Center for Contemporary Craft has opened ‘In Residence: 19th Edition,’ an exhibition featuring work by the eight artists selected for the institution’s 2025–2026 Artist Residency Program. On view in the Center’s Artist Hall from August 1, 2026, through July 3, 2027, the exhibition brings together works in fiber, clay, photography, and mixed media.
The presentation is the latest edition of the Center’s annual exhibition devoted to its residency program, which has supported artists working in craft for 25 years. The program provides local, regional, and international artists with space for creative exploration, as well as opportunities for exchange and collaboration with other artists, arts professionals, and the public.
The participating artists are Malene Djenaba Barnett, Roslyn Dupré, Candace Hicks, Katie Mongoven, Lorena Morales, Dominique Muñoz, Kendall Ross, and Grace Sachi Troxell. The exhibition’s materials and formats reflect the broad range of practices encompassed by the Center’s galleries, which are dedicated to interpreting and exhibiting craft across media and making traditions, including both traditional and experimental approaches.
According to HCCC Curatorial Fellow Zaynab Hilal, the exhibition considers how artists’ practices develop during the residency and how the cohort’s members affect one another’s work. Hilal describes the presentation as engaging “expanded conceptions of materiality, identity, and storytelling,” with individual works addressing themes including grief, home, and reclamation.

An opening reception was held on Friday, July 31, 2026, followed by a curator and artist walkthrough on the opening day, Saturday, August 1.
