Lars Tunbjörk’s photographic series Landet utom sig is on view at Vandalorum in Värnamo from 28 March to 11 October 2026, presented in the museum’s Lada 1 space. The exhibition was produced by Kulturhuset Stadsteatern and is curated by Maria Patomella (source: Vandalorum’s exhibition page).
Tunbjörk (1956–2015), who came from Borås, is described by Vandalorum as one of the most significant Swedish photographers of recent decades. Landet utom sig, made in 1993, was his breakthrough series and documents a Sweden shifting from the folkhem model towards a more commercialised society. He also worked internationally, contributing to publications including The New York Times, Libération, GEO and Le Monde, and was a member of the French agency VU’.
The production originated in Stockholm, where Lars Tunbjörk: Landet utom sig opened at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern on 18 September 2025 (institutional press release, 14 August 2025). It was made in collaboration with Maud Nycander, Lars Tunbjörks stiftelse and Tore G. Wärenstams stiftelse, with acknowledgement to Borås Stadsarkiv. The Värnamo presentation lists support from Tore G. Wärenstams Stiftelse, Kulturrådet, Region Jönköpings län, Värnamo kommun and Vandalorum’s partners.
This record reached the queue through a weekly newsletter from the director of Kalmar konstmuseum, whose section heading refers to Tunbjörk having photographed Öland Zoo. The newsletter text stored with the record is a different edition, dated 28 June 2024, and contains no reference to Tunbjörk, Öland Zoo or Vandalorum. The specific newsletter details previously in this text — an elephant and a clown, 1980s childhood memories in Kalmar, and a Marlene Lindmark exhibition at Teatergalleriet — could not be verified from any available source and have been removed. Kalmar konstmuseum’s own site confirms that its exhibition Survival Kit runs until 30 August 2026.
