Art Images Gallery will present ‘Nganawi Ruwi (My Country)’, an exhibition by Ngarrindjeri artist Amanda Westley, from 4 September to 4 October 2026. The exhibition will open on Friday 4 September from 6 to 8pm at the gallery in Norwood, South Australia.
Westley’s paintings are rooted in her connection to land, family and coastal Country. Working in contemporary Aboriginal dot painting, she uses vibrant fields of colour to translate her South Australian heritage and her relationship to Ngarrindjeri Country. The gallery describes the works as engaging with Country as a living, spiritual presence, rather than as a passive setting or background.
Westley was born in Victor Harbor, South Australia, and was raised between farm life and the ocean. Her family circumstances included a boatbuilder father, and the gallery’s exhibition material connects her experience of water, shoreline and rural landscape with both her identity and her artistic practice. These elements inform the coastal perspective that runs through ‘Nganawi Ruwi (My Country)’, whose title places the idea of Country at the centre of the presentation.
The exhibition’s colour-driven compositions echo the rhythms of the artist’s coastal home. According to the gallery, the paintings honour her family’s long-standing connection to the south coast while expressing the calm, continuity and cultural strength associated with it. The works therefore bring together personal experience, cultural connection and a contemporary approach to Aboriginal painting.
Art Images Gallery is based in Norwood and operates an exhibition programme alongside its presentation and sale of paintings, prints, sculpture, glass, ceramics, jewellery and other objects. Its exhibition listings include artists working across a range of media and identify ‘Nganawi Ruwi (My Country)’ as one of the gallery’s upcoming exhibitions for 2026. The gallery is open seven days, with weekday hours from 9am to 5pm, Saturday hours from 10am to 5pm and Sunday hours from 2pm to 5pm.
‘Nganawi Ruwi (My Country)’ will be on view at Art Images Gallery from Friday 4 September through Sunday 4 October 2026. The opening night is scheduled for 6–8pm on 4 September.
