Courthouse Gallery Fine Art in Ellsworth, Maine, is presenting ‘A Shared Horizon’, a two-person exhibition bringing together the work of Maine artists Heidi Daub and Richard Keen. The exhibition runs from August 14 through September 10, 2026, and examines shared interests in patterns, fractals and the natural world despite the artists’ markedly different visual approaches.
According to the gallery, Daub and Keen’s practices are complementary but distinct. One is described as geometric and bold, while the other is organic and softly layered. The pairing uses those contrasts as a starting point for considering how two different methods of painting can converge around a common engagement with natural forms and landscape.
The exhibition’s paintings are presented as richly saturated and dreamlike landscapes. The gallery describes them as offering a view into a realm where patterns in nature mysteriously meet. Keen’s ‘Night Trees’ works and Daub’s ‘She Comes From Sun’ are cited as examples of this shared concern, with each artist translating aspects of the natural world into an imaginative pictorial language.
Keen’s works in the exhibition include ‘Peters Brook (Blue Hill)’, a 52-by-52-inch painting made with acrylic and oil on canvas, as well as the related series ‘Night Trees’ and ‘Flat Rock’. Other listed paintings include ‘King Pine, Cold Moon’, ‘Blue Trees No. 27: Surry’ and ‘Blue Trees No. 28: Surry’. The works range in scale from 14-by-14 inches to 52-by-52 inches, and the gallery identifies their media as acrylic and oil on canvas.
Daub’s selection includes paintings on linen, canvas and paper. Among the listed works are ‘Sun’s Promise’, ‘Along The Tidal River’, ‘Cloud Of Many Moons’, ‘The Dress Of The Sun’, ‘Weaving Earth And Sky’ and ‘What The Trees Bring’. Her works range from the 12-by-12-inch ‘Field Of Spring’ to the 40-by-36-inch ‘The Dress Of The Sun’, with the gallery identifying the paintings as acrylic on paper, linen or canvas.
An artists’ reception for ‘A Shared Horizon’ is scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, from 5 to 7pm. Courthouse Gallery Fine Art is located at 6 Court Street in Ellsworth, Maine. The exhibition remains on view through September 10, 2026.
