The Musée Angladon in Avignon is presenting ‘Madeleine Lemaire. Compositions florales à l’aquarelle’, a seasonal display focused on the French artist’s floral watercolours. The presentation features two drawings donated to the museum by Dominique and Philippe Tailleur in 2017.
The museum’s dedicated webpage lists the display as running until Tuesday, 8 September 2026, from 1pm to 6pm. A Musée Angladon newsletter issued in August instead gives the closing date as Sunday, 6 September. The two published dates conflict; visitors should confirm the final opening date with the museum before planning a visit.
Lemaire (1845–1928) was a painter, pastellist, printmaker and illustrator. She began exhibiting at the Paris Salon in 1864, and her work included portraits as well as floral compositions. Her paintings are held in collections including those of the Musée d’Orsay, according to the Musée Angladon’s presentation.
The display also places Lemaire’s flower studies within the cultural networks of the Belle Époque. She maintained a musical and literary salon attended by writers, musicians, actors and actresses, among them Robert de Montesquiou and Marcel Proust. Lemaire’s floral watercolours were used to illustrate Proust’s collection ‘Les Plaisirs et les Jours’, published by Calmann-Lévy in 1896.
One of the works identified on the museum’s webpage is ‘Corbeille d’œillets’, an undated watercolour on paper measuring 268 by 360 millimetres. The work is credited as a gift from Dominique and Philippe Tailleur in 2017, with photography by Fabrice Lepeltier. The page describes the presentation as comprising two drawings offered to the Musée Angladon.
The seasonal display is shown with the museum’s general admission. The standard entry price is €12, with a reduced rate of €8 and a €3 ticket for visitors aged 15 to 25; children under 14 enter free. Musée Angladon—Collection Jacques Doucet is located at 5 rue du Laboureur in Avignon. Its published seasonal hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 1pm to 6pm, with last admission at 5:15pm.
