Kunsthaus Zofingen will present ‘Der Wolf in der Gegenwartskunst’, a group exhibition bringing together contemporary artists from Switzerland and Germany around the wolf’s shifting place between cultural myth and physical reality. The exhibition runs from 22 August to 8 November 2026 in Zofingen, Switzerland.
The exhibition statement describes the wolf as a figure associated with freedom and fear, wilderness and conflict. Rather than treating the animal through familiar stereotypes or headline-driven debates, the presentation aims to question established images and open up alternative perspectives on how the wolf is imagined in contemporary culture.
Artists named in the exhibition include Joseph Beuys, Chantale Demierre, Félicia Eisenring and Isabell Bullerschen, Michael Günzburger, Rochus Lussi, Gabriele Lutz, Andrea Nyffeler and Sophie Schmidt. The announcement also identifies works by Nyffeler and Günzburger: Nyffeler’s ‘In the Pines, In the Pines’, dated 2026, and Günzburger’s ‘Wolf’, dated 2014. The full selection is described as including works by these artists and others.
The opening, or vernissage, will take place at Kunsthaus Zofingen on Saturday, 22 August, at 4pm. Thomas Staubli, a member of the Kunsthaus Zofingen board, will deliver the welcome, followed by remarks from André Kirchhofer, the mayor of Zofingen. Eva Bigler, the Kunsthaus’s artistic director, will introduce the exhibition.
A public tour is scheduled for Sunday, 30 August, at 2pm, with the institution’s art-education team providing background on the works. Further programming includes ‘Wölfe, sind sie uns zu nah?’ on 12 September at 4pm, a reading, film screening and discussion with biologist and wildlife filmmaker Andreas Moser. The event will be translated into sign language and held as part of Zofingen’s KULTUR UFER cultural festival. A family day for children up to six and their accompanying adults follows on 19 September, while art historian Marina Stawicki and pastor Ruedi Gebhard will lead ‘Religion und Kunst im Gespräch’ on 29 October at 7pm. The exhibition closes on Sunday, 8 November, with a finissage at 3.30pm.
Kunsthaus Zofingen is run by an association. During the exhibition, it will be open on Thursdays and Fridays from 2pm to 6pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm; on Thursdays with evening events, it remains open until 9pm. Admission is free, with visitors invited to contribute to a collection. The venue is at General Guisan-Strasse 12, Zofingen.
