The exhibition ‘Fremde und Freiheit. Mona Höke und Kathrin Karras. Pückler – Dialog über einen Kosmopolit’ is presenting a collaborative project by painter Mona Höke and photographer Kathrin Karras at the Brandenburgisches Landesmuseum für moderne Kunst’s Dieselkraftwerk in Cottbus. The exhibition runs from 20 June to 23 August 2026.

Rather than simply placing the two artists’ work side by side, the project marks their first joint presentation in which they also collaborate directly on individual images. According to the museum, Höke and Karras work together on the pictures, allowing photography, digital image production and unique paintings to overlap within the resulting works.

The exhibition’s title links the artists’ collaboration with a dialogue about a cosmopolitan figure, as indicated by the subtitle ‘Pückler – Dialog über einen Kosmopolit’. The supplied exhibition information does not provide further details about the specific works or the curatorial argument, but identifies the presentation as a focused encounter between Höke’s painting and Karras’s photographic practice.

Karras is also leading related photography workshops at the Dieselkraftwerk during the exhibition’s final week. The ‘MAKERSPACE – Wir: Transformer*innen in der (Sch)Lausitz’ sessions, titled ‘Fotografie – Verborgene Orte’, are scheduled for 17, 18 and 19 August 2026. The programme is aimed at young people aged 12 and over, is free of charge, and is limited to a maximum of 10 participants.

The Dieselkraftwerk is the Cottbus location of the Brandenburgisches Landesmuseum für moderne Kunst, or BLMK, which also operates venues in Frankfurt (Oder). The museum’s programme spans painting, photography, graphic art, sculpture and other modern and contemporary practices. At the Cottbus site, the current programme places the Höke–Karras collaboration alongside exhibitions including ‘Chris Hinze. Fragmente eines Wegs’, ‘Alles Gute, lieber Hans’ and ‘Im Gefängnis – Ein Comic-Projekt von Patricia Thoma’, although these are separate presentations.

The museum’s wider exhibition programme also includes forthcoming projects such as ‘Ungebremste Selbstbewegungen. Kunst mit Fotografie in der DDR’ and ‘Der grelle Schein der Ränder. Jonathas de Andrade und Werke aus der Sammlung des BLMK’, both at the Dieselkraftwerk later in August. Those exhibitions are separate from ‘Fremde und Freiheit’, which remains on view at Uferstraße/Am Amtsteich 15 in Cottbus through 23 August 2026. The venue is open Tuesday to Sunday from 11am to 7pm.
