The British Museum has announced a new in-person drawing course that invites participants to study objects from the collection through still-life practice. 'Drawing the collection: advanced course' runs over three Fridays — 18 and 25 September, and 2 October 2026 — from 17.30 to 20.30, with classes based in the Clore Centre for Education and the galleries in London.

The museum says the course is designed to help attendees develop their drawing practice through direct engagement with objects from different cultures and time periods. The format combines live tutor demonstrations with time in the galleries to observe and draw museum objects, allowing participants to work from material drawn from the institution’s holdings rather than from reproductions or studio setups alone.

Artist Usva Inei will lead the tutor demonstrations. The British Museum describes the course as a still-life drawing experience that aims to help students learn how to capture objects and deepen the skills they use in their wider artistic practice. The course is priced at £120 and is open to adults aged 18 and over.

The museum’s announcement presents the class as part of a broader programme of public events that link learning with the collection. In the same newsletter, the British Museum also highlighted additional online tickets for talks connected to the Bayeux Tapestry and promoted other events, including a youth poetry showcase and an early-bird ticket offer for 'Korea'. Those items were listed separately from the drawing course.

For the drawing class itself, the museum is emphasising close looking and sustained study in front of original objects. The emphasis on still life, combined with gallery-based sessions, places the course somewhere between practical art instruction and object study, with participants moving between the teaching space and the collection galleries across the three-week schedule.

Booking is now open for 'Drawing the collection: advanced course', which takes place at the Clore Centre for Education and galleries on Fridays 18, 25 September and 2 October 2026, 17.30–20.30.
