Opening December 12, ‘Lino Tagliapietra: Maestro’ will inaugurate the Lino Tagliapietra Legacy Gallery at Museum of Glass. The exhibition is curated from 175 pieces Tagliapietra gifted from his American archive. It includes more than 50 works made between 1998 and 2023, presented across six thematic vignettes.
The exhibition highlights Tagliapietra’s innovative use of line, texture, lace-like patterns, and intense color in blown glass.
‘Lino Tagliapietra: Maestro’ will be the first exhibition in the permanent Lino Tagliapietra Legacy Gallery, described as the cornerstone of the 2026 Museum of Glass capital renovation project. With the conclusion of that project on December 12, the museum says it will have modernized its gallery spaces to present a more thorough, interdisciplinary perspective on the art form. The project also expands the museum’s gallery footprint to include the immersive new Lino Tagliapietra Legacy Gallery.
Tagliapietra made the Puget Sound area his home in the United States for 45 years. The museum characterizes his enduring legacy through his work, mentorship, and intimate relationship with the Pacific Northwest, while describing his imprint on contemporary glass in the United States and beyond as recognized and defined through those connections. That legacy continues through the long-term team who worked with him, including Jen Elek, John Kiley, Nancy Callan, David Walters, Erich Woll, and Darin Denison. His close friend and protégé, Dante Marioni, continues to work with Tagliapietra and is also a keeper of his legacy.
In the museum’s Grand Hall, visitors will look up to find a suspended installation combining Tagliapietra’s monumental ‘Endeavor’ (‘Boats’) and ‘Alas’ (‘Birds’) series. The ‘Endeavor’ series recalls the canals of Venice, where streamlined gondolas gently float on the water, while ‘Alas’ represents the area’s abundant birdlife.
