Applications for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Visual Arts Fellowship close at 5 p.m. on November 6, 2026. The programme invites professional artists, higher-education art students and graduate-level art-history students from every corner of Virginia to apply.
The fellowship programme is described as a vital source of funding for the visual arts and art history in Virginia, supporting professional artists as well as art and art-history students who demonstrate exceptional creative ability in their chosen discipline; VMFA says it has awarded more than $6.5 million in Fellowships to Virginians. The announcement names Denise Bethel, Sally Mann, Benjamin Wigfall, Dennis Winston, Cy Twombly, Vince Gilligan, Nell Blaine and Sonya Clark among the artists mentioned, alongside hundreds of others.
As part of its commitment to Virginians, VMFA showcases the work of Visual Arts Fellowship recipients through presentations in museum spaces and at an airport. Those presentations are listed as ongoing at Amuse Restaurant, the Claiborne Robertson Room, the Pauley Center Galleries and Richmond International Airport.
Pam Fox, identified as a 2003–04 and 2011–12 VMFA Visual Arts Fellowship recipient, captures florals and foliage in a series of photographs using the fleeting light source of sunlight moving through fabric.
