The Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts has expressed its condolences following the death of artist Yayoi Kusama, saying that a work from its collection is currently on view in the museum’s permanent exhibition room.

In a Japanese-language notice posted on August 27, 2026, the Utsunomiya, Japan, museum wrote, in translation: “Upon receiving news of the passing of artist Yayoi Kusama, we express our deep condolences.” The statement did not provide further details about the circumstances or date of her death.

The work identified in the notice is ‘My Dog Rinrin’ (2009). The museum described the piece as part of its own collection and said it is currently being displayed in the permanent exhibition room, which is occupied by the museum’s Collection 2 display, on view from 11 July to 1 October 2026. The notice itself named no exhibition title or end date.

The museum also said that Kusama’s works had been loved by the many people who visited it, and closed with a prayer for her peaceful rest.

The notice provides no additional biographical information about Kusama and does not announce a new event or programme. The available information is limited to the museum’s statement of mourning and the presentation of ‘My Dog Rinrin’ (2009) in its permanent exhibition room.
