Japanese painter, printmaker, and engraver (1891-1980) who moved to France in 1919 and became a master of the mezzotint technique in European printmaking. Producing hundreds of engravings from his Paris studio, he was awarded the French Legion of Honour and became a significant figure bridging Japanese and European modernism.
