The Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art will host a two-day 'Rodin Museum Drawing Session' on September 18 and 19, inviting middle school students, high school students and adults to sketch sculptures by Auguste Rodin in the museum’s Rodin Hall. The workshop is scheduled from 10:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day, with participation capped at 25 people per session.

The museum’s event notice says participants will be able to draw some of Rodin’s best-known works, including 'The Gates of Hell' and 'The Thinker'. The session is designed as a self-directed drawing opportunity rather than an instructor-led class: no guidance will be provided, and participants are responsible for bringing their own materials. The museum notes that, for conservation reasons, only pencils and kneaded erasers are permitted.

According to the listing, the workshop takes place in the museum’s Rodin Hall and is open to individuals only; group applications are not accepted. If applications exceed capacity, the museum will select participants by lottery. The page also specifies that the session will be held at the Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art in Shizuoka, Japan.

The schedule begins with reception at 10:00 a.m. in the practical studio, followed by an introductory explanation at 10:15 a.m. for first-time participants. Drawing in the Rodin Hall begins at 10:30 a.m. and continues until 4:30 p.m., with re-entry allowed and participants free to end their session at any time before closing.

The museum says easels, chairs and drawing boards will be loaned on site, while sketch paper and other materials may be sold by the museum’s friends association at cost. Participants must also pay the admission fee for the collection display: 500 yen for general admission, free for university students and younger visitors with ID, free for visitors 70 and older with proof of age, or 900 yen for an annual pass valid for one year for the collection display and Rodin Hall.

Applications are accepted through either the museum’s web form or a paper application sheet. The deadline is August 31, 2026, and the museum says it will contact applicants only if they are unsuccessful in the lottery. The notice also asks participants not to attend if they are feeling unwell.
