The later phase of the Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art’s exhibition ‘日美50年展’ has added important works by the Edo-period painter Ito Jakuchu and the modern artist Kishida Ryusei. The museum announced the display update on August 25, stating that the exhibition will remain on view through September 27.
Among the additions is Jakuchu’s ‘仙人掌群鶏図襖絵’—a folding-screen painting of cacti and chickens described by the museum as a late masterpiece by the artist. The work is held by Saifukuji Temple in Osaka.
The exhibition’s later presentation also includes Kishida’s ‘道路と土手と塀（切通之写生）’, a work from the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. The museum identifies it as an important example of modern Japanese oil painting and lists it among the two Important Cultural Properties newly included in the exhibition.
Jakuchu, known for his vividly detailed paintings of birds, animals and plants, worked in Kyoto during the Edo period. Kishida was a leading figure in modern Japanese painting, and his work ‘道路と土手と塀（切通之写生）’ is presented here alongside Jakuchu’s much earlier folding-screen painting as part of the exhibition’s revised selection.
The announcement does not provide additional details about the exhibition’s full theme, opening date or the length of the earlier display period. It confirms that the later phase, including both newly added works, continues until September 27 at the Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art in Shizuoka.
