The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is showing ‘From Persia to Paisley: Global Luxury and the Kashmir Shawl’ through November 29 in the Hossein Afshar Galleries for Art of the Islamic Worlds, Level 1 of the Law Building. The exhibition is billed by the museum as “Spanning the Himalayan Highlands to the Courts of Europe—The Greatest Fashion Story Ever Woven,” framing the Kashmir shawl as an object of both luxury and wide-ranging cultural exchange.
The show’s title points to the journey traced by the textile itself: from the Persian world to the decorative vocabulary that later became known as paisley.
