The Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende (MSSA) in Santiago has announced the next stage of a collaborative project with the Taller de Patrimonio of Liceo 1 Javiera Carrera, moving from an initial period of exchange into a phase of collective creation rooted in archival research. According to the museum, the initiative is being developed through its Mediation Program and the MSSA Archive, with the aim of sharing knowledge and practices around archival work, strengthening artistic methodologies, and generating creative processes based on research and reflective thinking.
The museum said the project began after a first semester dedicated to getting to know each group’s work and identifying common interests rather than starting from a fixed format. In March 2026, Yenny Díaz, the museum’s mediation coordinator, and Catalina Miranda, who oversees access and activation of the MSSA Archive, took part in the school’s 8M commemoration. That encounter helped establish the formal link between the two institutions.
During April, May and June, the collaboration unfolded through reciprocal visits. The MSSA team visited the Taller de Patrimonio, while students and teachers from the workshop visited the museum archive and toured the exhibition 'América despierta' with the mediation team. The museum described those meetings as part of a broader effort to understand how each group works, exchange methods and prepare the second half of the project. The school workshop has so far focused mainly on historical research and on considering how to think about and activate its own archive from the present.
The Liceo 1 group also took part in 'Archivar para encontrarnos: ¿cómo construir archivos comunitarios?', an MSSA Archive event held during International Archives Week in June. The museum said that activity introduced the students to other collectives and projects and helped broaden networks of collaboration and shared experience. The project is framed by the institution as an example of how dialogue between school communities and cultural institutions can open new ways to investigate, create and activate heritage.
In August, the collaboration will move formally into its creative stage. As the first meeting of the second semester, the group plans a joint visit to the Fanzinoteca of Hambre Hambre Hambre, which the museum says will serve as inspiration for teachers and students as they define the format they will work with, such as a fanzine or another publication, along with the content to be developed in the coming months.
From there, the Taller de Patrimonio and the museum team will work together on creating a mediation device that connects the students’ research interests with artistic creation tools. The stated goal is to produce something that can be shared with different audiences and that places the workshop’s archive in a collaborative, creative framework. The museum’s notice, published on 6 August 2026, presents the project as an ongoing partnership between the MSSA and the Liceo 1 workshop rather than a finished exhibition or event.
