Pérez Art Museum Miami will host a three-day convening with Flip It & Reverse It from August 12 to 14, bringing together artists, curators, Indigenous knowledge bearers, spiritual leaders and cultural organizers for a program focused on creativity, community and change-making. The museum’s announcement describes the event as a space for participants from four continents and the local Miami community to exchange strategies for building connections, rethinking art-world structures and protecting nature.
The convening is organized around the project’s stated aim of exploring how spirit can re-envision the structures, methodologies and resources of the art world. According to PAMM, the program will include conversations, lectures and presentations on topics ranging from socially engaged art to the Haitian Revolution’s legacy in contemporary art making. The museum frames the gathering as a forum for sharing tactics for community-building and environmental care, with the broader goal of creating “a roadmap for creating change and healing the planet.”
The first program, ‘Where and Why: An International Conversation,’ takes place online on Wednesday, August 12, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Before the public convening begins, cultural leaders from museums, biennials and independent organizations across the Americas and Europe will discuss the past, present and future of Flip It & Reverse It. The conversation is billed as an exchange on the role of cultural institutions in fostering international collaboration, knowledge exchange and community-building.
On Thursday, August 13, PAMM’s free evening hours will include ‘PAMM After Hours: Art, Conversation, and Exchange,’ a guided tour and conversation led by PAMM Curator Jennifer Inacio. That session will focus on the museum’s exhibition ‘One Becomes Many,’ which the museum says explores enduring legacies that transcend generations in the work of 11 Black Brazilian artists. The program is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The main in-person convening, ‘Flip It & Reverse It: We Are One with All There Is,’ follows on Friday, August 14, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. PAMM says the daylong event unfolds in six chapters, beginning with ‘The Queen Mother’s Blessing’ and continuing through ‘Grounding in this Project Universe,’ ‘Reaching Each Other Across Oceans,’ ‘Breaking Bread Together – Lunch Break,’ ‘Origin Story: Collective Movements Powered by Nature’ and ‘The Secret Unfurls.’ The museum presents the sequence as a day of communal reflection, artistic grounding and shared discovery.
The featured participants listed for the August 14 program include Francine Birbragher, Rashida Bumbray, Adrian Castro, william cordova, Christopher Cozier, Her Royal Majesty Queen Mother Dr. Dòwòti Désir, Becky (Nahom) Donovan, Keyna Elieson, Astrid González, Eileen Jeng-Lynch, Khanyisile Mbongwa, Amy Rosenblum-Martín, Adenike Sharpley, Franklin Sirmans and Marie Vickles. PAMM says the program is included with museum admission, priced at $18 for adults and free for members. The museum notes that it is an accessible facility and provides registration links for the online and in-person programs.
