The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa will present a free screening of 'Projection in Hiroshima', a documentary on Krzysztof Wodiczko, on August 29 at 4 pm. The event is part of the museum’s 'Gekkann (Monthly) Art Screen' programme, which draws on materials from its art library to introduce films related to contemporary art and artists connected to current exhibitions and events.

According to the museum’s event listing, the August screening is scheduled in the lecture hall and runs 70 minutes. Admission is free and no advance reservation is required. The museum identifies the programme as an opportunity to deepen viewers’ understanding of artworks and artists through moving-image materials from its collections and library holdings.

'Projection in Hiroshima' follows Wodiczko’s public projection work in Hiroshima, including what the museum describes as the first such project in Japan, carried out in August 1999 in front of the Atomic Bomb Dome. The documentary was made in 2000 and is directed by Yasushi Kishimoto, with Wodiczko appearing in the film. The museum also notes that the August screening is being presented in connection with its exhibition 'Roadside, Excuse Me?', which includes Wodiczko among the participating artists.

Wodiczko, born in Poland in 1943, is described by the museum as a contemporary artist who has continued to produce work around the world on problems faced by cities and the people who live in them. The screening therefore places his Hiroshima project within a broader practice of public intervention and site-specific projection, using documentary film to revisit a pivotal work from his career.

The August programme is the first of three screenings announced under this month’s 'Gekkann (Monthly) Art Screen' series. The museum has also scheduled 'Enter the Genba' by Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba and contact Gonzo for September 5, with two screenings at 6 pm and 7 pm, and 'On About 'Memory of a Room'' by Chiharu Shiota and Chelfitsch for October 16 at 4 pm.

All screenings are part of the museum’s art library AV materials programme. The library’s regular opening hours are 10 am to 6 pm, with extended hours until 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and the museum says the films can also be viewed on the library’s computers.
