The São Paulo Museum of Modern Art’s educational programme will host a public conversation on 18 August with the curators Mirela Estelles and Valquíria Prates, focusing on the exhibition 'Mire Veja'. The talk is scheduled for 3 pm at the Sesc Bom Retiro library in São Paulo and will be presented by MAM Educativo.
According to the museum’s event page, the discussion will centre on the processes, choices and questions behind the making of 'Mire Veja: MAM São Paulo visita o Sesc Bom Retiro'. The curators will speak about how the exhibition was built from the encounter between works from the Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo and the Sesc Bom Retiro collection.
The event page describes the conversation as an opportunity to consider the ways exhibitions are displayed, mediated and made public, with particular attention to contemporary art and the different contexts in which works circulate. It also places emphasis on the relationships that can be formed with diverse audiences through those exhibition conditions.
Mirela Estelles is identified by MAM as a cultural mediator whose work investigates storytelling in museum and exhibition education. The museum says she coordinates MAM São Paulo’s education department and has worked there since 2009. Valquíria Prates is described as a researcher, curator and educator whose practice spans visual art, literature and cultural mediation in museums, libraries, universities, schools and other institutions.
