Galerie Benedikta Rejta in Louny is presenting 'Zvukové projekty', a summer exhibition by Martin Janíček that places sound, sculpture and interactivity at the center of the gallery experience. The show runs from 12 June to 11 October 2026 and introduces a new acoustic installation built from sound objects and recycled materials, accompanied by the projection 'Hlas krajiny' ('Voice of the Landscape').
Janíček, born in 1961, is described by the gallery as a sound artist, sculptor, musician and sound designer whose practice moves between interactive art, acoustic experimentation and site-specific installation. His work explores the acoustic properties of different materials and combines experimental sound with spatial installation and visual art. The gallery says his approach is marked by a simple formal language, an emphasis on participation and an intense engagement with visitors’ sensory perception.
The exhibition is part of a two-show project at Galerie Benedikta Rejta that also includes 'Trommel' by František Kyncl. In the gallery’s framing, the pair of exhibitions extends the institution’s space toward interactive and multisensory forms of art. The project follows earlier programming that emphasized the experiential and restorative dimensions of art, while adding sound as a core material of exhibition-making rather than a supplementary element.
According to the gallery, Janíček’s work also draws on the tradition of linking light, colour and music, with reference to the experiments of Zdeněk Pešánek and his concept of colour music. For Louny, Janíček is preparing an interactive acoustic installation assembled from sound objects and recycled materials, which he transforms into original instruments and spatial compositions. The accompanying sound projection, 'Hlas krajiny', is being created in collaboration with Pavel Mrkus and is inspired by the landscape of the České středohoří region.
The exhibition invites visitors to become an active part of the work and to help shape its final form through movement, sound and mutual interaction. The gallery says that this participatory dimension is central to Janíček’s practice and will define the way the installation is experienced on site.
The source material also notes Janíček’s studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and his later work as an assistant to Professor Miloš Šejn at the academy’s Conceptual Art Department. Since the 1990s, he has realised projects in the Czech Republic and abroad, with presentations in New York, Berlin, Vienna, Brighton and Tokyo, and with collaborations involving experimental musicians including Mia Zabelka and Phill Niblock. He also took part in an interactive installation for the Czech Pavilion at Expo 2005 Aichi in Japan.
A related opening of the two exhibitions was announced for 11 June 2026 at 18:00, with public access beginning 12 June. The gallery lists Lucie B. Šiklová as curator of 'Zvukové projekty' and gives the venue as Galerie Benedikta Rejta, Pivovarská 34, Louny.
