'Lament for a Burnt Forest' is an immersive sound installation presented in the Atelier at Abby in Kortrijk from 30 October to 8 November 2026.
Inspired by forests burned around Athens, the installation brings women’s voices together in a polyphonic composition created through collective vocal improvisations. Through the sound work, Maan & Victor examine how ecological mourning might become a shared listening experience rather than a loss carried alone and in silence.
The installation invites visitors to listen, pause and make room together for feelings raised by the ecological crisis, while opening a path toward renewed connection with the more-than-human world. Between grief and hope, the project unfolds as a contemporary ritual expressing ecological loss.
Collective listening sessions will take place on 31 October and 1 November at 11:00, 14:00 and 16:00; participation is free but requires registration. The installation is free to experience with or without a museum ticket and is accessible from 10:00 to 18:00, except on Monday 2 November, when Abby is closed.
