‘Dead Horse Radio’ is a durational site-based installation and live radio project by Umico Niwa, developed during the artist’s 2026–27 residency at Wysing.
The installation involves a buried baby muntjac deer enclosed in a steel sarcophagus. Microphones will record the deer’s decay over nine months.
Niwa will broadcast the sound live and conduct interviews with artists and writers about grief, death and rebirth.
Umico Niwa has been named a recipient of a Knotenpunkt Propel grant supporting a residency at Wysing Arts Centre as part of the organisation’s 2026–27 programme.
