Columbus Museum of Art will offer a curator-led tour of ‘Tavares Strachan: The Day Tomorrow Began’ on August 28, with Daniel Marcus, CMA curator of collections and exhibitions, leading the hour-long program at Columbus Museum of Art at The Pizzuti. The tour is set for 6:00 to 7:00 PM in Columbus, and registration is free for members and $10 for nonmembers.
The event is tied to CMA’s major exhibition devoted to Strachan, which the museum describes as the first museum survey in the United States of the pathbreaking conceptual artist, born in 1979 in Nassau, Bahamas. The exhibition opened May 16, 2026, and is scheduled to remain on view through January 3, 2027, at The Pizzuti, the museum’s site at 632 Park Street. CMA notes that admission to the exhibition is included with the cost of admission at Columbus Museum of Art at The Pizzuti, while members receive free admission.
According to the museum, ‘Tavares Strachan: The Day Tomorrow Began’ focuses on Strachan’s practice as an explorer and storyteller and on his fusion of art, science, and cultural inquiry. At the center of the exhibition is ‘Encyclopedia of Invisibility’, an evolving compendium of hidden histories that Strachan has assembled into an open-ended archive of figures, events, and ideas omitted from canonizing historical narratives. The museum says that archive has informed a range of recent works spanning monumental sculptures, glass and ceramic works, paintings, tapestries, self-playing musical instruments and room-scale installations.
The curator-led tour is intended to highlight different aspects of that multisensory exhibition. CMA’s event listing says Marcus will guide visitors through a tour that spotlights hidden histories made visible through Strachan’s art. The museum also describes the exhibition as immersive and multisensory, signaling a format that combines large-scale works with an installation environment designed for close-looking and movement through the gallery.
Strachan’s installation ‘Bar Room’ is part of that environment and is separately described by CMA as a fully operational rum bar, café and community gathering place that will remain at The Pizzuti as a permanent installation after the exhibition’s duration. The museum also lists ‘Bar Room’ as open weekly, with hours on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday and Saturday from 2:00 to 10:00 PM, and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
The exhibition is co-organized by Columbus Museum of Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. CMA’s exhibition page also identifies supporters for the project and offers an exhibition catalogue for sale, but the August 28 tour itself is the museum’s next publicly listed program directly centered on the show. The event takes place at Columbus Museum of Art at The Pizzuti, 632 Park Street, Columbus, Ohio.
