CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo will present ‘Contemplating the Grid’, an annotated screening and discussion on video art, on 12 August 2026 at the institution’s Rachel and Israel Pollak Gallery in Tel Aviv-Yafo. The evening is being framed by the center as a response to its current exhibition ‘Nardeen Srouji: A Sole Cypress’, and it will bring together artist Mohamed Tuhafi and a screening program drawn from the CCA video archive.
According to the event listing, the program is structured around the idea of the grid and the different ways it appears in video art. Tuhafi will introduce various types of grid, speaking about pattern, rhythm, and the ways a worldview can be shaped by, or reflected through, such structures. The talk will address cartographic, tactile, and digital grids, as well as grids as systems of containment and as spaces that can also offer concealment or be resisted.
The screening will include works by Doron Solomon, Efrat Kenani, Nardeen Srouji, and Tina Jacob. The CCA says the selection will be discussed in relation to critical theory, and in dialogue with the work of Hito Steyerl and Mona Hatoum. The event page also notes that the conversation will be held in Hebrew, with some of the works screened in English without translation.
Tuhafi is described by the CCA as a multidisciplinary artist whose practice reworks place-based myths and rituals, using them to examine the politics and poetics of visibility. He lives and works in Haifa and teaches in the art department at the University of Haifa. The session is curated by Luma Abu Wardeh, with accompaniment by Tal Yachas, and is scheduled to run for about 70 minutes.
The event comes during the run of ‘Nardeen Srouji: A Sole Cypress’, which opened on 18 June 2026 and continues through 29 August 2026. The exhibition spans two gallery spaces and combines a site-responsive installation, embroidery works on metal, and sculptural interventions. Srouji’s exhibition starts from the pair of cypress trees in the entrance forecourt of the CCA building and from the institution’s postmodern metal architecture, using those features to examine the surrounding ground and its historical, political, social, and physical layers.
The exhibition text says Srouji’s first-floor work recreates the building’s facade as a tilted architectural remnant inside the gallery, while the second floor presents embroidered works on metal sheets inspired in part by the building’s protective mashrabiya-like elements. The artist’s recent embroidery series draws on Palestinian textile symbols and the cypress motif in particular, which the exhibition text connects to boundaries, place, and the visual language of Palestinian embroidery. The event ‘Contemplating the Grid’ is set for 12 August 2026 at 20:00, with admission listed at 20 shekels.
